Senior Project Manager/Lead Geotechnical Scientist

The role will involve a number of key activities including:

  • Field and office project management;
  • Planning field operations;
  • Working in conjunction with Alpine’s HSE Manager to ensure that HSE Protocols are followed and that operations are conducted in a safe and effective manner;
  • Overseeing field and data reduction personnel;
  • Providing QA/QC of data;
  • Compiling and writing final reports as well as liaising with Geotechnical Laboratories when needed;
  • Advising on, or preparing/writing proposals related to sediment sampling projects.
  • Liaising with clients before, during and after field operations;
  • Assisting in client outreach and development during marketing efforts;
  • Providing general technical advice to other managers in his/her area of expertise;
  • This position is both office and field based and the Candidate must be willing to travel, both domestically and internationally. Field work can be both shore based and offshore based including 24-hour per day ship operations.



We are looking for a candidate with the following required and preferred qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 10 years combined work and educational experience in geotechnical geology. A Masters level degree in a relevant field (Geology etc.) is preferred;
  2. Experience managing Office and Field personnel. The Candidate must possess proven leadership/management skills along with excellent communication and writing abilities;
  3. Proven ability to meet project deadlines and coordinate effectively with other team members to meet project goals;
  4. A strong foundation in marine field operations related to sediment sampling - vibracoring, grab sampling, marine boring etc. Experience with O&G infrastructure projects, submarine cable/pipeline routing, civil engineering and/or environmental assessment projects a plus;
  5. Candidate should have experience mobilizing third party vessels for sediment sampling operations as well as trouble shooting capability on sediment sampling equipment;
  6. Experience with other geophysical and navigation equipment and software an important plus;
  7. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid working Visa and be willing to travel both within the U.S. and overseas.
