Alpine is currently searching for a Field Project Manager/Party Chief with a specialty in hydrography and geophysics to be based in Norwood, NJ. The chosen individual will be a core member of our operational team that has an excellent reputation for the provision of high quality, reliable and accurate geophysical, geotechnical, hydrographic and oceanographic measurement services. This is primarily a field position and the Candidate must be willing to travel, both domestically and internationally. This position will involve four to six months of field assignments per year. These assignments can be both short 2-day to 2-week long local and domestic projects and longer duration offshore and international projects. Field work can be both shore based and offshore based including 24-hour per day ship operations.

The role will involve a number of key activities including:

  • Field project management, including client liaising, planning field operations, overseeing field personnel while on the project and providing QA/QC of data. Enforcement and monitoring of HSSE protocols will also fall under the individual’s duties.
  • Candidate must have a working knowledge of geophysical data acquisition systems and software including Side Scan Sonars, Subbottom Profilers and Magnetometers. Knowledge of operation and deployment of high resolution multi-channel a plus. Software packages which could be used include QINSy, HYPACK, MagLog, SonarWiz, SonarPro, Geosuite, GeoFusion, MATLAB and Global Mapper.
  • Candidate should have good knowledge of navigation and positioning techniques and an adequate knowledge of multi-beam data acquisition in order to oversee QC.
  • Candidate should have some trouble shooting capability on equipment especially when it comes to fine tuning systems for best results.
  • Knowledge of mobilizing third party vessels from the bottom up a plus.
  • Candidate should have good writing skills and should be able to write preliminary reports and process and interpret data at least to the QA/QC stages.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or GIS a plus.
  • Employee is responsible for the quality of work performed along with personal safety, co-workers safety and the care and maintenance of equipment.
  • Support and encourage continuous improvement of the company’s processes, including safety program and quality management system.
  • Communicate tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Able to meet deadlines and operate under pressure.


The successful candidate will have a degree in a marine sciences related field (geology, geophysics, or oceanography) and a minimum of 5 years applied marine science field experience, or an applicable Master’s Degree and 3 years’ experience. The Candidate’s area of expertise should fall within one or multiple of the following areas: O&G infrastructure projects, submarine cable/pipeline routing, civil engineering and/or environmental assessment projects. The Candidate must possess proven leadership/management skills along with excellent communication and writing skills. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or have a valid working Visa and be willing to travel both within the U.S. and overseas.
