AutoCAD Drafter / Cartographer

The AutoCAD Drafter/Cartographer will prepare geospatial drawings to show bottom type, infrastructure, hydrographic, and physiographic features; prepare report figures; and work with bathymetric, topographic and geophysical data. The applicant must be proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D and GIS. Experience in the aquatic environment and transferring data between various horizontal and vertical datum is preferred. Qualified candidates will have at least 2 years of relevant experience with knowledge of the surface modeling and contouring tools found in AutoCAD.  Prior life experience in land survey as a rod man, instrument man, party chief or surveyor is a bonus.

It is also expected that the preferred candidate will stay abreast of new technology developments in the geographic and cartographic realm by attending conferences, meetings, and other industry gatherings, ensure maps are designed correctly, and maintain quality assurance and quality control oversight. Ensure cartographic principal standardization, best practices, and procedures, write cartographic standard operating procedures, and provide ad hoc map creation and cartographic design support, as needed.


  • Provide AutoCAD and design support for marine surveying projects
  • Produce legible, aesthetic, and technically correct drawings in an efficient manner
  • Manage and organize data
  • Communicate and work pro-actively with project managers and field personnel


  • B.A. or B.S. degree in surveying technology/geomatics, marine science, geology, or related field a plus
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (including Civil 3D) and MS Office software applications
  • Knowledge of world geography and standard cartographic practices
  • High degree of self-motivation
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with GPS device software, a plus
  • A.S. in drafting and design a plus.
  • Working knowledge of land/marine surveying activities a plus
  • Knowledge of Autochart a plus
